Alzheimer’s Disease – Reduce Your Risk!

Gerry Morton October 29, 2012

Did you know that according to American Disease Research more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease.

What is Alzheimer’s?
Alzheimer’s disease begins to develop in an individual’s brain at least ten years before manifestation of symptoms. Healthy neurons begin to decline and lose ability to communicate with one another and eventually die.
Risk Factors
Studies have shown that Alzheimer’s may be caused by combination of several factors such as genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. Poor lifestyle and eating habits leading to certain diseases such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity may be associated with the development and course of Alzheimer’s disease. Choosing to make healthy lifestyle changes early in your life may reduce or prevent your risk of acquiring this devastating disease.
Eat Healthy to Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease
Eating a nutritious diet along with taking supplements have may be linked to reducing the risk for Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Adapting a heart healthy diet which consists of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, fish and shellfish helps maintain a healthy cardiovascular system, which improves healthy blood circulation to the brain, lowering risk for Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Omega 3 fatty acids, found in nuts, salmon, tuna and halibut are invaluable for healthy brain function, according to University of Maryland Medical Center.  EnergyFirst’s Omega Oil Blend or OmegaEnergy Fish Oil can help you get your daily dose of healthy essential fatty acids.
  • EnergyFirst’s Brain Formula contains herbs and vitamins that help to improve brain function and relieve stress and anxiety. It also helps to improve mental focus and reduces risk for age-related related diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
Always Keep Your Mind Positively Focused on a Purpose
Having a positive attitude goes a long way. It not only makes you and others feel good, it also produces endorphins that keep your body healthy. An interesting 10-year study found that of 246 participants, those who continued to have a zestful purpose in their life, maintained a healthier level of cognition despite physical impairments, than those who didn’t.
Exercise to Prevent Alzheimer’s
Studies are showing that incorporating an exercise routine into your life may prevent or delay Alzheimer’s disease. Exercise increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain. As much as 20% to 25% of circulating blood is pumped to your head with every heart beat and brain cells use about 20% of nutrients and oxygen carried in the blood; therefore eating right and exercising improves cardiovascular health which benefits brain health. Taking a brisk walk every day may lower your risk of developing Alzheimer’s by 45% by keeping your blood pumping and getting healthy nutrients and oxygen to your brain.
